Book Club Love to read? Want to explore interesting topics? Join us. During June, we will read “The Variations” by John Donatich. It is the story of Father Dominic, a priest who has lost his church, his mentor, and most upsetting, his ability to pray. The story is a metaphor for our times, the story of one man’s spiritual disillusion and ache for self-knowledge. We will meet to discuss the book during the last week of June—the day to be determined. There is a limited number of copies of the book in the Chicago Public Library, but it is available [ Read More ]

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We were honored to have a special guest preacher, former pastor of Morgan Park United Methodist Church from 1975-1984 Rev. Martin L. Deppe, who worked with Dr. King during the civil rights movement. At the specific request of Rev. Dennis Langdon, pastor of MPUMC, Rev. Deppe used the occasion to make the connection of the Civil Rights Movement to gay rights, to assist our congregation in living into our commitment as a Reconciling Congregation. In 1967, Deppe stood behind Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. [ Read More ]
