Morgan Park UMC petitions Mayor Daley to initiate a Gang Truce Summit

Responding to the surge of homicidal violence that is plaguing the city of Chicago, the members of Morgan Park United Methodist Church (MPUMC) are presenting a petition to City Hall urging Mayor Richard M. Daley to initiate a Gang Truce Summit. It is the hope of MPUMC that the Mayor, along with the leadership of the Chicago Police and Fire Departments, Cease Fire, clergy and community organizations come together and host a formalized gathering aimed at addressing and putting an end to the escalating gun violence.

The members of the church are also discussing ways of how to engage other interested parties, particularly the religious community in the Beverly/Morgan Park, in addressing this issue.
